Oracle’s new numbering system

Confused by the sudden change in numbering from Release 8.4 to 15.1? It’s simple!

Oracle is now moving towards a year-based numbering system. The first number indicates the year of release, while the second number identifies the version number. For example, in the case of P6 EPPM Release 15.1, the numbers indicate the first release for the year of 2015. All future releases are set to follow this numbering convention.
